OpenRoaming
OpenRoaming is a technology and commercial ecosystem for WiFi connectivity. End users with credentials from any participating organisation can seamlessly login to secure Wi-Fi in all OpenRoaming locations. OpenRoaming federation members include access network providers (ANPs) who provide the wireless connectivity, and identity providers (IdPs), who provide user credentials to end users, with many organisations acting in both capacities.

OpenRoaming for ANPs
Distributing credentials and onboarding users to WiFi is often a challenge for wireless providers, especially in transient locations such as airports, conference centers, sports stadiums, shopping malls and concert venues. Deploying OpenRoaming increases the amount of users who will login automatically. OpenRoaming also enables network monetisation via roaming deals with mobile operators and other actors.
OpenRoaming for IdPs
Any organizations with user accounts for employees, guests or customers can become an OpenRoaming identity provider. As an IdP, your users enjoy convenient wireless connectivity in OpenRoaming locations all over the world and the secure authentication ensures their privacy is not compromised. OpenRoaming user profiles can be delivered to managed employee devices, distributed to guests via company website, or included in loyalty apps, for example.
OpenRoaming for mobile operators
MNOs and MVNOs can enhance user experience by including OpenRoaming support in the mobile subscriptions. SIM based authentication is secure and user friendly – authentication happens invisibly and seamlessly without any user interaction. Technology-wise, this use case is a variation of WiFi offloading.
